About the Role
Sydney Dental Hospital and Oral Health Services, Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) in collaboration with Southern New South Wales Local Health District (SNSWLHD) and Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD), are seeking passionate and dedicated new graduate dentists. If you are on track to graduate at the end of this year and possess full, unlimited registration as a dentist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), we invite you to be part of our prestigious Collaborative New Graduate Program.
This unique program is designed to provide you with a supportive environment where you can consolidate your skills and excel in your dental career. As a new graduate dental officer, you will receive exceptional support and mentoring from our senior clinicians, enabling you to deliver high-quality dental services and provide holistic patient and family-centred care to the eligible population of SLHD, SNSWLHD and MLHD.\
Our program goes beyond the ordinary by offering continuous professional development opportunities, ensuring that you stay at the forefront of your field. Through rotations in general dentistry at our Community Oral Health Clinic (COHC), specialised areas such as Paediatrics, Oral Surgery, and Special Care Dentistry at Sydney Dental Hospital, as well as a 6 month rural rotation in SNSWLHD or MLHD COHCs, you will gain invaluable experience and mentorship from experts in various dental disciplines. What’s more, you will be provided accommodation during your rural rotation.
Throughout the 24-month program, you will have the opportunity to make a real impact on the communities we serve. By the end of the program, you will witness a remarkable transformation in your confidence and competencies, emerging as a capable and accomplished recent graduate ready to make a difference.

Ideal Candidate
- Final year dentistry student anticipating graduation at the end of this year with a qualification eligible for full, unlimited registration as a dentist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Depending on performance and fulfilling the competency requirements to an expected standard for year one as per the program, there will be an opportunity to continue for a second year of rotations.
- Ability and willingness to provide dental services at different locations within Sydney Dental Hospital and across the Sydney Local Health District.
- Ability and willingness to travel and stay in a rural area within Southern NSW or Murrumbidgee LHD. Accommodation would be provided.
- Currently holds a valid NSW Driver’s Licence (P1 and P2 licence acceptable).

- Provide expert oversight of intra-oral radiography undertaken by student clinicians, including radiograph processing and radiation safety.
- Deliver high standards of infection prevention and control, including PPE, instrument reprocessing, sterilisation and clinical waste management.
- Maintain accurate patient records and quality data using NSW Health and Oral Health digital systems, while protecting patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Support a positive learning environment through student supervision, staff orientation, training, meetings and oral health promotion activities.

- Recent, adequate experience as a Dental Assistant and with Dental Radiography.
- Demonstrated ability to assist the clinician in a four-handed environment, with a variety of dental procedures including general and specialised care.
- Demonstrated ability to perform effective infection control procedures in all aspects of Dental Assisting.
- Demonstrated proficiency and accuracy in dental charting.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions
- The ability to work in a large, multidisciplinary team, and be able to liaise effectively with a range of individuals including fellow health care workers and the general public.
- Excellent organisational, time-management and problem- solving skills.

Where you'll be working
Based at Mount Druitt Hospital Dental Clinic, you’ll be part of the Western Sydney Local Health District Oral Health team, supporting the delivery of high-quality dental services across a diverse range of community settings.
Mount Druitt Hospital has proudly supported its local community for more than 50 years, providing comprehensive healthcare services that continue to evolve with the needs of the community.
Work from the Mount Druitt Dental Clinic while supporting mobile and outreach services across Western Sydney.
Visit schools, hospitals, residential homes and other community locations as part of the Mobile Dental Program.
Work alongside experienced oral health professionals in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Gain varied experience across paediatric, adult and older patient populations.
Enjoy convenient access to Mt Druitt train station and Westfield shopping centre, with onsite and street parking options.
What you'll be doing
As a Dental Assistant, you’ll play an important role in supporting clinicians to deliver safe, efficient and compassionate dental care in both mobile and fixed clinic environments.
Prepare dental equipment, instruments and materials, assist chairside and support patient comfort throughout procedures.
Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, including PPE, waste disposal, instrument reprocessing and sterilisation.
Maintain accurate patient records and digital data using NSW Health and Oral Health systems.
Travel between Western Sydney locations, assisting with the safe transport, assembly and pack-down of portable dental equipment.
Contribute to team meetings, training, oral health promotion and preventative programs, while supporting trainees and new team members.

Essential Requirements:
Qualification: Certificate III in Dental Assisting or recognised equivalent/current enrolment in the course.
Selection Criteria:
Recent, adequate experience as a Dental Assistant across a range of dental specialties
Demonstrated ability to assist the clinician in a four-handed environment, with a variety of dental procedures including general or specialised care.
Demonstrated ability to perform effective infection control procedures in all aspects of Dental Assisting.
Demonstrated proficiency and accuracy in dental charting with good computer skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with proven ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
The ability to work in a large, multidisciplinary team, and be able to liaise effectively with a range of individuals including fellow health care workers and the general public.
Excellent organisational, time-management and problem-solving skills.
Hold a current Class C Licence and willing to take shared responsibility for safe driving of various fleet vehicles between locations in Western Sydney and back to the base location.
