The purpose of this job isTo provide a high-quality front-office experience within the Dental Practice, overseeing patient appointments, billing, payments, and records, while supporting clinical care delivery, promoting patient education in dental health, and contributing to the smooth and professional operation of the practice.
What you'll need to make it possible:- Deliver outstanding patient experiences by supporting chairside clinical care, assisting with treatments, x-rays, and maintaining immaculate treatment rooms in line with infection control standards.

The Role
We’re currently looking for a dental Assistant who is responsible for supporting the dental clinician in the provision of high standard dental services to patients in Correctional Centres across New South Wales. These locations include: Sydney Metro, Junee, Cessnock, South Coast, Bathurst, Wellington, Kempsey and Cooma.

About the role
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Dental Assistant to join the team at the Dubbo Community Dental Clinic. This role provides chairside assistance to dental clinicians and general support to the dental team, including instrument reprocessing, infection control, reception, and administrative duties. You will play an important role in delivering high quality oral health services and ensuring a positive experience for patients across a variety of clinical settings.
Based in Dubbo, the Community Dental Clinic operates six dental chairs and provides outreach services to rural communities and schools through both fixed and mobile clinics. The successful applicant will assist with a broad range of dental procedures, maintain high infection control standards, support administrative functions, and participate in outreach services that may involve long-distance travel and occasional overnight stays. This position works a 9-day fortnight with no weekend work, offering an excellent work-life balance.
To be successful, you will hold a Certificate III in Dental Assisting (or equivalent) and/or have significant recent experience as a Dental Assistant. You will demonstrate strong chairside assisting skills, sound knowledge of infection prevention and control practices, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to providing safe, patient-centred care. A current NSW Driver Licence and willingness to travel are essential. What you'll be doing
The Dental Assistant is responsible for providing clinical and administrative assistance in all aspects of dentistry within the guidelines set by the Dental Assistants State Award.

About You
You are a qualified Dental Assistant with a Certificate III in Dental Assisting or equivalent experience, bringing the knowledge, skills, and professionalism required to provide high-quality support to dental clinicians across a diverse patient population. You demonstrate a strong ability to assist with a wide range of dental procedures, ensuring patients receive safe, efficient, and patient-focused care while maintaining a calm and supportive clinical environment.
Your thorough understanding of contemporary dental infection prevention and control standards enables you to consistently maintain a clean, safe, and compliant clinical setting. You are committed to adhering to best practice guidelines and organisational policies, contributing to positive patient outcomes and the delivery of high-quality dental services.
You communicate effectively and professionally with patients, colleagues, dental practitioners, and other healthcare professionals. Your approachable manner, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to build positive working relationships allow you to contribute to a collaborative and respectful workplace culture while supporting patients from diverse backgrounds.

The Team
OHST is a team of approximately 300 people including dentists, oral health therapists, dental prosthetists, technicians, dental assistants and administrative staff. Care is provided from 33 clinics around Tasmania. Adult services are predominantly provided from 6 major dental centres located in Hobart (New Town), Clarence, Glenorchy, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie as well as the 3 Special Care Dental Units (located within hospital precincts). Child and Adolescent Services are provided predominantly from 23 community clinics which are either located in a community health centre or are a stand-alone clinic.
At Oral Health Services Tasmania, you will work across a multi-disciplinary work environment. Our team is progressive and always striving for best practice and outcome to our patients, We will look after you from the very beginning, ensure you are fully inducted and welcomed into our team and into our culture.
The Role
Provide clinical dental services and associated administrative functions in line with Oral Health Service Tasmania’s (OHST) strategies, policies, and programs. This involves the provision of dental services (at general dental practitioner level) to concession card holders and children in accordance with current treatment guidelines and management policies.
You will need
- Sound knowledge of dentistry, including children’s dentistry, at the general dental practitioner level.
- A commitment to continuing professional education and sharing knowledge with colleagues.
- An up-to-date knowledge and appreciation of the principles of Public Health Dentistry and Minimal Intervention Dentistry with a commitment to improving the safety and quality of services.

About You

- Certificate III in Dental Assisting (or qualification deemed by the Ministry of Health to be equivalent), or relevant experience as a Dental Assistant.
Please note: Unqualified but experienced dental assistants can be employed as Dental Assistants Grade 1. Such employees commence and remain on level 1 year 1 until they obtain formal qualifications through study or recognition of prior learning. The employee is responsible for obtaining formal qualifications in their own time and at their own expense.
- Sound knowledge of infection control procedures within a dental clinic setting.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office applications or Dental related software and completing accurate data entry and administrative tasks.
